Located
in the East China, the most prosperous Yangtze
River Delta, Changzhou lies in-between the
two metropolitan cities of Shanghai and
Nanjing. It is about 100 miles from Shanghai
and 70 miles from Nanjing. With a cultural
history of over 2500 years, Changzhou is
also a rising modern industrial city. It
covers a total area of 180,000 acres, and
11,000 acres are urban areas. The total
population in Changzhou is 3.415 million,
including 840,000 urban residents.
Changzhou has a solid industrial foundation.
There are over 20,000 various manufacturing
companies, forming a complete industrial
structure including mechanical, metallurgy,
electronics, textile, garments,
chemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics, building
materials and foodstuff. The six main industries
in Changzhou are power industry, engineering
machinery, automobile, motorcycle and their
parts, power transmission equipment, electronics,
new-style textile and garments. It has formed
numerous brand products such as the diesel
engines, loaders, power transformers, city
buses, special and micro motors, DVD and
indigo blue denim, etc. By now, the percentage
of new and Hi-Tech enterprises accounts
for 50% of total economy in the city.
Changzhou National Hi-Tech District (CND),
a national industrial development area,
was established in August 1992. The CND
Administrative Committee executes the same
economic authority as the municipal government
does. The enterprises in the CND enjoy the
preferential policies granted by the State
Council.
CND
is located in the north of Changzhou city,
and is adjacent to the riverside of Yangtze
River. There is a national grade oceangoing
port consisting of a general dock, a container
dock and a petro-chemical dock with capacity
of 30,000 tons each. CND has very convenient
transportation network by air, water, road
and rail. The Shanghai-Nanjing Railway is
in the south, and the Yangtze River in the
north. Shanghai is 100miles away in the
east, and Nanjing is 70 miles away in the
west.
During the past ten years, CND has been
consistently improving the investment environment
following the international standard. Today,
CND forms a complete set of industries and
is one of the first bunches of development
zones being ISO14001 certified in China.
CND
has attracted many local and overseas investors
by its excellent location, convenient transportation,
stable preferential policies and efficient
service. A group of famous multi-national
companies have settled down in CND, such
as General Electronics, Ashland Chemical,
Caltex Oil Corp., Flextronics Enclosure
Systems and Watson Pharmaceuticals from
the USA; Radici Plastic from Italy; Rieter
Textile Instrument, Vsinor Steel and Valinox
from France; Invensys from Britain; Leoni
Electronics, KME from Germany; Disa from
Denmark; Kymco Motors, Komatsu Engineering
Machinery, Bridgestone Bicycle, Fujitsu
Electronics, Takamisawa Electronics and
Fuji Heavy Industry from Japan; Shinho Petrochemical
from Korea; Embry from Hong Kong, etc.. |
